Auditions & rehearsals

Show Auditions

A few weeks before the audition day, details will be published on our website and our Facebook page.

We generally have three to four get-togethers before the auditions to learn about the show, go through audition pieces and learn any dance routines.

All performing (full) members are eligible to audition. If you are not a member of the company but would like to audition a £10 audition fee is required. This will be deducted from your membership fee should you be successful in auditioning.

If this all sounds daunting we can tell you that almost all those who audition are successful and go on to enjoy being part of a friendly company which is committed to achieving high standards in the performance of its shows.

As a member, you are free to decide which shows you would like to commit to but we do encourage those who are not involved in a particular show to help out in some way during show week.

Rehearsals

From April 2024, all rehearsals will take place at Gibbons Hall (the Harpenden Trust, above the co-op in Southdown) on Mondays and Thursday from 7.45pm until 10.00pm.  Generally ensemble rehearsals are on Mondays and principal rehearsals on Thursday.

Rehearsals span a 4-6 month time period and you are asked to attend all rehearsals. At audition you are asked to supply us with all known dates that you cannot make rehearsals.

Cast members are given a rehearsal schedule detailing when they are called for rehearsal.

Once committed to a show, members will be expected to attend all rehearsals they are called for, with the exception of those that are made known to the production team before auditions.

In the weeks before a show additional Sunday rehearsals will be scheduled, which generally run from 2pm until 6pm.

All cast members are expected to provide their own appropriate rehearsal gear - comfy clothes, appropriate dance shoes etc.

Scores & Libretto

All cast members can borrow a score/libretto. A payment of £15 is required, £10 of which will be refunded when the score/libretto is returned in good condition, with all markings erased, after the show.
